September 1st — Day of Knowledge and Literacy
In Armenia, September 1st is celebrated as the Day of Knowledge, Literacy, and Education. This holiday is established by Article 12 of the Law of the Republic of Armenia "On Holidays and Memorial Days." Education and knowledge have long held a firm place in Armenian society. A deep respect for books and a commitment to learning have always been considered integral traits of the Armenian mentality.
September 1st holds special significance for first-graders crossing the school threshold for the first time. This year, the start of the academic year marks a new beginning not only for local children but also for thousands of newcomers who do not yet speak Armenian. In recent years, many families from Russia and other CIS countries have moved to Armenia, and the number of children from mixed families is also growing. For many of them, Russian is the primary language of communication at home, which is why parents are actively seeking opportunities for their children to study in a familiar language.
How is the adaptation process going? In schools with a multinational student body, educators strive to create a supportive environment. Social workers and psychologists are involved in working with children from other countries to help them integrate into the community more quickly and overcome the language barrier. At the same time, it is important to remember that even in Russian-language classes, children will likely need to study Armenian—the country's official language—in parallel. Many families find that while their child attends an Armenian school or a class with a different language of instruction, they must also fill gaps in the Russian educational curriculum (mathematics, Russian language, literature, physics, etc.) at home. Consequently, there is a high demand for tutors, both for all subjects and for specific disciplines.
Numerous highly qualified specialists listed on the Dasaxos.am website are ready to help our guests master the beautiful Armenian language, which will facilitate their integration into our society. Our tutors are prepared to conduct lessons in mathematics, chemistry, biology, and other subjects in Russian or English.
